Russian Pie Recipe 1909.
Half a pound of cold minced meat, one hard boiled egg, add carrots if required, half an ounce of butter, two ounces of rice, a teaspoonful of curry-powder, and salt, three-quarters of a pound of short or flaky pastry. Boil the rice with the curry-powder, and when done mix it with meat. Put the meat and rice into a pie-dish lined with the pastry, add the butter, Oxo,and seasoning; cut the egg into slices,and place on top of the mixture; cover with pastry, brush over with egg or milk, bake in a quick oven.
A Cheap Pie Recipe.
If you have hot meat on Sunday, cold on Monday, on Tuesday mince the remains, and mix with mashed potatoes and season with one onion, chopped. Put all into a pie dish, cover with pastry, and bake in a quick oven.
Cabbage Balls Recipe.
Mix together some minced meat,parsley, onions, rice,pepper and salt, and bind the mixture together with a beaten raw egg. Steam some cabbage leaves in very little water, then roll a little of the mixture into each one in the form of a ball; then lay very carefully in a rather large pan, with about a breakfast-cupful of water, and let them steam gently for an hour and a half.
